CORRECTIONS OFFICERS- Adult Detention - Job ID: 14-031
Job Description
Douglas County (KS) is accepting applications for a (3) month pool (September 2014-November 2014) for career oriented Corrections Officers. Successful applicants will work at the Douglas County Correctional Facility, a state of the art 186-bed direct supervision facility for adults. Required qualifications include a high school diploma (or G.E.D.), basic word processing and computer skills, good written and oral communication skills. Candidates must pass a background check, written, psychological, and drug testing. A polygraph examination may be required. Shift work mandatory. DIRECTOR-EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS - Job ID: 14-042
Job Description
Douglas County (KS) is accepting applications for Director of Emergency (911) Communication. The Director will report directly to the Sheriff and is responsible for directing, coordinating and monitoring the overall activities of a 31-person Emergency Communications Center staff, including enforcing policies, procedures and regulations on a 24-hour basis. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in business, public administration or related field is preferred. The successful applicant will have at least six years of experience in a consolidated emergency communications center providing fire, law enforcement and emergency medical services (EMS) or a related public safety position, including increasingly responsible supervisory duties. Exemplary organizational, presentation and written and oral communication skills are required. Must possess extensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations concerning radio communications and extensive knowledge of law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services and disaster management communications procedures. Thorough knowledge of budget preparation and management, personnel policy development, staff supervision and development, considerable knowledge of CAD systems, radio systems and E-911 systems and issues and outstanding customer service skills are essential. Must be able to "hit the ground running" and immediately be successful in leading Emergency Communications through radio system upgrades and changeovers as mandated by law. Emergency Communications Officer - Job ID: 14-027

Douglas County is accepting applications for a 6 month pool (July 2014- January 2015) for career oriented Communications Officers. The Center operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Essential functions of the job include: gathering, evaluating, prioritizing and documenting information; processing calls, including dispatching calls to the appropriate agencies; maintaining/monitoring radio communications with Police, Fire and EMS personnel; upholding confidentiality of information received; utilizing a multi-screen computer system, two-way radio, phone system, headset, and foot pedals while receiving/processing phone calls. Food Service Worker - Job ID: 14-040
Job Description
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a Food Service Worker at the Douglas County Correctional Facility. Some kitchen experience is required. Experience in institutional or large volume cooking is preferred but not mandatory. ServSafe certification is helpful. If not ServSafe certified must complete and pass the course prior to completion of the introductory period. Supervision of inmate workers during food preparation, service and clean up is required. Must pass mandated background investigation and drug screening; may be required to take a polygraph test. Must comply with shift work including weekends, holidays and overtime and must possess a valid Kansas driver's license at time of appointment. GIS SUMMER INTERNSHIP - Job ID: 14-009
Job Description
Douglas County, KS is seeking two (2) paid part-time interns for summer 2014 (May through August) for the GIS Division of the IT Department. The intern will assist the GIS staff with tasks related to both ongoing and special GIS projects. This internship is for students interested in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Technologies, Cartography or related fields. This internship involves land base map enhancement using advanced methods and techniques, geo-referencing scanned historical documents, geodatabase design for spatial datasets and developing or improving workflows associated with data maintenance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the latest GIS software and large-format office equipment. Scheduling will be flexible with an expectation of ten (10) hours per week, per intern. Interns will not be scheduled to work at the same time.
