DIRECTOR-EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS - Job ID: 14-030
Job Description
Douglas County (KS) is accepting applications for Director of Emergency (911) Communication. The Director will report directly to the Sheriff and is responsible for directing, coordinating and monitoring the overall activities of a 31-person Emergency Communications Center staff, including enforcing policies, procedures and regulations on a 24-hour basis. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in business, public administration or related field is preferred. The successful applicant will have at least six years of experience in a consolidated emergency communications center providing fire, law enforcement and emergency medical services (EMS) or a related public safety position, including increasingly responsible supervisory duties. Exemplary organizational, presentation and written and oral communication skills are required. Must possess extensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations concerning radio communications and extensive knowledge of law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services and disaster management communications procedures. Thorough knowledge of budget preparation and management, personnel policy development, staff supervision and development, considerable knowledge of CAD systems, radio systems and E-911 systems and issues and outstanding customer service skills are essential. Must be able to "hit the ground running" and immediately be successful in leading Emergency Communications through radio system upgrades and changeovers as mandated by law. Emergency Communications Officer - Job ID: 14-027
Job Description
Douglas County is accepting applications for a 6 month pool (July 2014- January 2015) for career oriented Communications Officers. The Center operates 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Essential functions of the job include: gathering, evaluating, prioritizing and documenting information; processing calls, including dispatching calls to the appropriate agencies; maintaining/monitoring radio communications with Police, Fire and EMS personnel; upholding confidentiality of information received; utilizing a multi-screen computer system, two-way radio, phone system, headset, and foot pedals while receiving/processing phone calls. Must pass mandatory background investigation/drug screen and will be required to comply with shift work including weekends, holidays, and overtime. GIS SUMMER INTERNSHIP - Job ID: 14-009
Job Description
Douglas County, KS is seeking two (2) paid part-time interns for summer 2014 (May through August) for the GIS Division of the IT Department. The intern will assist the GIS staff with tasks related to both ongoing and special GIS projects. This internship is for students interested in Geographic Information Systems, Spatial Technologies, Cartography or related fields. This internship involves land base map enhancement using advanced methods and techniques, geo-referencing scanned historical documents, geodatabase design for spatial datasets and developing or improving workflows associated with data maintenance. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with the latest GIS software and large-format office equipment. Scheduling will be flexible with an expectation of ten (10) hours per week, per intern. Interns will not be scheduled to work at the same time. Job Description
Seeking to fill a full-time position with Douglas County Community Corrections for an Intensive Supervision Probation Officer I. Job classification depends on qualifications of applicant.

Duties include monitoring adult offenders on probation in an office and community setting and preparing pertinent case supervision reports.

Required qualifications: Four-year degree with major course work in corrections, counseling, criminology, psychology, social work, sociology, journalism, or closely related field. Verification of completion of 60 semester hours from an accredited four-year college plus two years experience in Community Corrections may be substituted for degree. Applicant must have excellent organizational, communication and data entry skills.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in the field of probation/parole or working with an offender population.

Seeking to fill a full-time position with Douglas County Community Corrections for an Intensive Supervision Probation Officer II. Job classification depends on qualifications of applicant.
