This page contains information on juvenile intake for the Youth Services Department of Douglas County, Kansas.

The Shelter, Inc., provides a staff of helping professionals on call 24 hours a day to law enforcement officers in Douglas County to assist with any juvenile case. The staff provides crisis intervention to families as well as referral services for further help. If it appears that there is significant risk to a child or to society, we look at emergency placement options for children in the community. Beyond our intervention at the time of law enforcement contacts, we can also offer services to at-risk youth identified by our staff or other professionals.

We also offer a pre-filing diversion program for first-time and low-level offenders to give them a chance to avoid further involvement with the court system. For juveniles who are released on Conditions of Release after an arrest and who are not eligible for Pre-filing Diversion, we provide early supervision and monitoring as they proceed through the court process.
